Driving regulations, parking
The legal limit is 0.5.
No overtaking is permitted within 80 metres of level crossings.
By stopping, vehicles with right of way lose that right of way. It is forbidden to drive past school buses if their hazard warning flasher and yellow-and-red warning lights are on.
By day, dipped headlights must be switched on in both built-up and non built-up areas. Motorcyclists and moped riders are required to have a small first-aid kit with them.
There are short-term parking zone arrangements in operation in most towns and cities. These are indicated by means of signs at both ends of the parking zone in question. Where entire municipal areas are affected, the individual zones are not indicated. Car park tickets (max. period of validity 3 hours) can be obtained from vending machines, filling stations and tobacconists.
It is prohibited to park on roads with two-way traffic unless at least two lanes are left clear for moving traffic. Vehicles can be left at points subject to a limited stopping ban – other than short-term parking zones – for up to 10 minutes. Yellow zigzag lines mean stopping and parking are prohibited. Children must always be allowed to cross the road.
Filling up
Lead-free normal is 91, lead-free super 95 and super plus 98 octane. Filling stations are generally open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., round the clock on motorways. Credit cards are accepted at all large filling stations.
Miscellaneous
The wearing of reflective warning jackets when leaving a vehicle in an emergency situation such as an accident or breakdown is mandatory in non built-up areas. Such jackets should always be to hand both for safety’s sake and to avoid being fined.
