Passengers with handicaps

Is DB Autozug suitable for the mobility impaired?

skip: Is DB Autozug suitable for the mobility impaired?
DB Autozug services are, with some restrictions, suitable for disabled persons. On overnight services, there is a couchette car with a wheelchair accessible cabin and WC adjacent on almost all trains.

Information for disabled passengers is additionally contained in the brochure of the same name published by Deutsche Bahn AG, which includes a station directory detailing the relevant contact points, points of access and means of assistance (link in righthand column).

For passengers whose disability does not compel them to use a wheelchair, DB Autozug generally offers a viable means of travel. If advance notice is given, vehicles can be loaded by staff at terminals within Germany upon a disclaimer being signed.

Persons capable of limited walking such that they can board a sleeper or couchette car and who use a folding wheelchair in certain circumstances can likewise enjoy a pleasant journey. It is nevertheless definitely recommended that they travel with a companion, for whom a single couchette berth or seat is provided free of charge when single couchette or seated accommodation is booked. Where entire couchette cabins or seated compartmernts are booked, the price of one berth or seat is deducted from the fare if a companion travels.

Unfortunately, owing to the dimensions of the entrance doors, aisles (width limited by length of beds/berths) and sanitary facilities on the train as well as to the amount of room at terminals, persons reliant on travelling with a non-folding wheelchair and unable to leave their wheelchair are advised not to avail themselves of our service.

Applying for assistance

Assistance can be applied for by calling the DB Autozug service line or enquiring at the point of sale. It is regretted that neither such forms of assistance nor the wheelchair accessible couchette cabin can be booked online.

Contact the Mobility Service Centre (link in righthand column) if you have any questions regarding travel options for the mobility-impaired.
