Sleeper and couchette cars
What are the benefits of a sleeper cabin?
![]() |
That begins with a shower – en-suite on some services – and a fortifying breakfast. Indeed, you’ll find everything you need here to ease your way into the day ahead: a small table, a mirror and an en-suite washbasin. On some sleeper cars, cabins are two-bed, though the majority are three-bed.
What can I expect on the couchette car?
Couchette cars afford you several means of getting there in your sleep: for families or groups you can book a whole cabin with up to four other persons or else you can book a solo berth and share the cabin with other passengers. Each couchette car has two toilets and three washrooms as well as separate cabins for smokers and non-smokers.
We would like to book a journey with two cars occupied by two persons each on the Web. How can I arrange for all persons to be accommodated in one compartment?
You have the option of booking up to two motor cars and up to 6 motorcycles when booking online. Both solo accommodation and entire compartments are displayed in the booking dialogue. You then simply book all passengers into the same compartment.
Which coaches have air-conditioning?
All sleeper cars and many couchette cars are air-conditioned. Air-conditioned stock is deployed above all on cross-border services. You will be able to see whether the compartment on the service you desire is air-conditioned or not by consulting the relevant table or the booking dialogue.
How safe will I be when travelling with DB Autozug?
DB Autozug trains run exclusively with modernised couchette cars featuring offset door locking and an additional safety chain. Sleepers are equipped with a lock system having a security device on the inside and a BKS lock on the outside. The keys are issued to passengers on request. Please consult our service team on issues of this kind.
Which meals and drinks are available on the train free of charge?
- on overnight services: breakfast
Do all DB Autozug services run a dining car?
There is a buffet restaurant on almost all daytime services within Germany and on all international overnight services.
Where is smoking permitted on the train?
All seats are non-smoking. For reasons of safety, smoking is not permitted in the corridors. Smoking is completely prohibited on Austrian, Slovenian and Italian territory.
Are there any power points in cabins/compartments?
All sleeper cabins on DB Autozug services are fitted with sockets for laptops, shavers, cellphone rechargers and the like. Washrooms on all vehicles are likewise fitted with sockets. Hair dryers can only be run from sockets in the corridor, however, due to the power supply required.
