Carrying luggage safely
Fastening luggage to motorcycles
skip: Fastening luggage to motorcyclesYour motorcycle travels at up to 160 km/h with DB Autozug – effectively in reverse at times. Added to this, gusts of cross wind may arise, when two trains pass each other, for instance. It is particularly important, therefore, to securely fasten luggage, windscreens and other attachments.
Fixed cases and boxes are best, but packages well tied-up with string and lashed down are likewise feasible. By contrast, it is not enough to fasten luggage with rubber spiders, expanders or the like. If need be, our terminal service will lend you an additional strap for fastening your luggage.
Loose items of luggage such as helmets, cooking pots, deckchairs and the like must not be left by the motorcycle and should be removed. Please take luggage of this sort to your accommodation on the train.
Securing large windscreens
High or large windscreens must either be detached prior to the train journey or else secured by means of a windscreen strap. This can be obtained when checking into the terminal.
Before attaching the strap, the screen may need to be cleaned so the suction cups leave no marks. Where the windscreen is of adjustable height, it must be placed at the lowest setting (flat).
Attaching the windscreen strap:
- The loops at the sides of the screen strap are laid over the ends of the handlebars as far as the stop position
- The strap is laid out parallel to the handlebars, i.e. in a line
- The five suction cups are distributed evenly over the screen so the strap does not touch the screen
- Once the strap has been laid out, it is tensioned slightly and the loose end is attached to one end of the handlebars. It is necessary to ensure here that the strap lock does not come into contact with any chromium-plated parts or the windscreen itself.
