Taking luggage with you when travelling with DB Autozug
![]() |
Luggage may be left on, against, next to or in vehicles during carriage at the driver’s own risk and liability, though the arrangements differ from country to country.
Luggage stowed externally must be particularly well secured, since it has to withstand motion-induced wind at speeds of up to 160 km/h as well as cross-winds – even when travelling “backwards”. The loading staff will be pleased to assist in lashing items down. Please ensure you adhere to the max. overall vehicle dimensions.
The precise details on length and height can be found at “Vehicle dimensions”.
Roof luggage, jetbags
Roof luggage, which generally takes the form of “jetbags”, must be additionally secured at loading. You will receive the requisite securing strap when you check in at the terminal.
The securing strap is drawn diagonally across the jetbag so it passes round the roof rack or rails twice, at the back and at the front. Please ensure the strap does not rub against painted surfaces such as the car roof and that its free end does not hang loose.
Please note that soft-sided roof carriers (such as the Thule Ranger 90 model) cannot be accepted for carriage.
Bicycles
Bicycles stowed inside vehicles or on rear racks can be carried without restriction on DB Autozug services. They can only be carried flat on roof racks unfortunately. They must be firmly secured. Please do not fail to adhere to the max. permissible vehicle dimensions set for the various countries you are visiting.
It is not at present possible to book vehicles with rear racks online. Please ring the DB Autozug service line in such instances.
If your bicycles are to be stowed on a roof rack, please click on this under “Roof attachments” when booking online and indicate the overall height of your vehicle inclusive of the height of the bicycles.
Light boats, surfboards, sports equipment and similar items
These can be carried if they can be accommodated next to the vehicle and suitably secured. It is necessary to indicate that they are to be carried when booking. The max. permissible vehicle dimensions set for the various countries you are visiting also need to be adhered to. No items carried may be longer than the actual vehicle.
Accompanying luggage on motorcycles
Only luggage stowed in the panniers or cases fixed to the motorcycle can be left on the vehicle. Additional luggage may be left with the motorcycle as long as it is firmly attached to the vehicle, secured with a strap (not rubber) and the securing points are not obscured.
