Travel with Autozug to the Allgäu region
The beauty of the Allgäu from Lake Constance to the base of the Alps
skip: The beauty of the Allgäu from Lake Constance to the base of the AlpsNature itself formed the unrestricted beauty of the Allgäu. From the sparkling Lake Constance, over the hilly alpine uplands up to the majestic Alps, in the high southern area between the Widderstein and the Greisshorn. Noble views over Neuschwanstein in the east and the ultimate vistas across the Tannheimer valley. Dream landscapes before, at and in the Allgäu Alps.
At every turn, one can see developed landscapes and a lively abundance of regional styles of life and special features. Fascinating communities and connected differentness bring visitors into rhapsodies.
In the south, the border runs along the crest of the Allgäu Alps beginning in Säuling by Füssen in a broad salient to the south up to the Pfänder by Bregenz, where the German border is often crossed. For example, here is Mount Krottenkopf, at 2,657 metres, the highest mountain in the Allgäu Alps, in Tyrol. Further, large parts of Tyrol and Vorarlberg are included; the Vilstal north of Reutte, the parish of Jungholz south of the river Wertach and the Kleinwalsertal south west of Oberstdorf.
In the west the border-line runs from Pfänder up to Schloss Wolfegg. From there for the northern border, one must imagine a line running through Leutkirch, Obergrunzburg and Kaufbeuren up to the river Lech by Schongau. The river Lech provides the eastern border and even though this is crossed, Steingaden, and Schwangau, including Schloss Neuschwanstein, also belong to the Allgäu.Travel with the Autozug from Hamburg, Berlin, Hildesheim or Düsseldorf to Munich. From there, it is a comfortable journey to the Allgäu.
