Holidaying in Southern France
Beaches, dunes, wild rock scenery - recuperation in Languedoc-Roussillon
skip: Beaches, dunes, wild rock scenery - recuperation in Languedoc-RoussillonThe region Languedoc-Roussillon, which lies in the south west of France with on average 300 sunny days each year, is reckoned among the most favoured holiday destinations in France.
For everyone, who is not just seeking a beach holiday, there are offers of visits to the interior. For example, visits to the historically important structure Pont du Gard (Roman aqueduct) and Nimes with its arena or the Maison Carre should be an essential part of the holiday programme. Also worth seeing are towns such as: Montpellier, Narbonne, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Sete and Beziers.
Narbonne is the perfect start point for a beach holiday with a white beach in the immediate vicinity for example the Gruisan-Beach. You can also make visits to Perpignan (41 miles), to Carcassonne (38 miles) or to Montpellier - capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, one of the largest and oldest wine growing areas in the world. The Provence with Avignon is just 112 miles away but surely worth a trip?
You can travel with DB Autozug to Narbonne, a very interesting architectural town on the Canal du Midi, which was an important harbour and marketing town in ancient times.
