Couchette coaches

Perfect for travelling with friends and family

For greater privacy, it’s best to book your own compartment, which you can share with up to five people. During the daytime, the couchette berths can be converted into comfortable seats.

You can adjust the temperature in your couchette compartment according to the outside temperature. The air conditioning starts a short time after the train’s departure and works best when the windows remain closed.

Journeys booked in couchette coaches include a breakfast snack (except the daily BerlinMunich and HamburgMunich routes.)

Couchette coaches feature:

  • Comfortable seats for during the daytime
  • Comfortable beds with safety straps
  • Blankets, sheets and pillows
  • Lockable compartment doors
  • Reading lamps
  • Washrooms and WC at the end of the coach

Your own compartment

If you prefer to travel in the company of friends or your family, it’s best to book an entire couchette compartment. Couchettes are particularly popular among small groups of motorcyclists travelling together, since they can take advantage of the affordable prices on whole compartments. These prices remain the same, regardless of how many adults or children occupy a compartment.

Single berths If you choose to book a cheaper single couchette berth, you’ll share the compartment with up to four additional passengers. Showers and WCs are located at the end of each carriage. When booking individual berths in a couchette coach, half fare is charged for children aged six to 14 and children under the age of six who require their own berth.

Passengers with reduced mobility

All DB Autozug connections feature a wheelchair-accessible couchette compartment, which includes a directly adjoining WC. It can be booked for a passenger with reduced mobility and one travelling companion for the price of a single couchette.

Wheelchair-accessible compartments

  • Can be booked for up to 2 passengers
  • Automatic sliding door (lockable)
  • Blankets, sheets and pillows
  • Wheelchair-accessible corner table
  • Wheelchair-accessible washstand
  • Intercom system
  • WC with emergency call button

Spatial limitations on board

The sleeping cars and couchette coaches as well as the on-board restaurant are ideally suited for passengers in folding wheelchairs. However, the side corridors in the sleeping cars and couchette coaches as well as the standard toilets are unfortunately too narrow for access with a folding wheelchair.

We would be happy to provide you with our mobility service when boarding and leaving the train. Please note that you should sign up for this service at least two days before departure. It is not possible to sign up for this service at the terminal or on the train.
